10 Special Events and Days for the Neuroendocrine Tumor Community

From New York to California, in Canada and online, there are many upcoming events for the neuroendocrine tumor (NET) community during the months of February, March, and April.

The Seventh Annual Bay Area Neuroendocrine Patient Education Conference will be held at UCSF on Sunday, February 10, 2019 from 8:30 am to 5 pm.  Speakers from UCSF, Stanford, Kaiser, and CSC will discuss the latest in NET patient care.  There will be breakout sessions for caregivers and specific topic areas as well as extended lunch table talks for networking and information sharing. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Sonia Lupien, the Director and Founder of the the Centre of Studies on Human Stress at the Institut universitair en santementale de Montreal, and will speak on “Stress and Cancer: From Science to Personal Perspective.” READ MORE

 

Frankly Speaking about Cancer: Neuroendocrine and Carcinoid Tumors is a workshop to be presented by the Cancer Support Community of Greater Philadelphia on Wednesday, February 13 at 6 pm.  This FREE workshop for patients, loved ones, and the public will raise awareness about NET diagnoses, treatment options, managing side effects, coping with the psychosocial impact of carcinoid NET tumors, and how to foster constructive dialogue with your healthcare team. The featured presenters are Bonnie Bennett, RN, BSN, who is the Nurse Coordinator for the Neuroendocrine Tumor Treatment Program at the University of Pennsylvania, and Diann Boyd, BSN RN OCN, Oncology Nurse Navigator for the Neuroendocrine Tumor Treatment Program at the University of Pennsylvania. Neuroendocrine Cancer Patient Conference of the Carolinas will be presented by the Neuroendocrine Cancer Awareness Network (NCAN) in Charleston, South Carolina on Saturday, March 2. The day-long program will feature neuroendocrine cancer physicians speaking on topics such as an introduction to neuroendocrine tumors, diagnostic scans, clinical trials, liver metastases, controlling serotonin, interventional radiology, and PRRT, as well as a panel featuring NET patients. Offered in partnership with Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, the NANETS Phoenix Regional Conference will bring together area experts in the management of NET cancers with guest speakers from across the county. Topics to be addressed include:  An Overview of Neuroendocrine Tumors, Surgical Treatment of NETs, Role of Hormones in NETs, Medical Management of NETs, Hereditary Syndromes with NETs, Pulmonary NETs, Liver-Directed Treatments for Patients with Metastatic NETs, and Case Presentations and Multidisciplinary Tumor Board. MEN 2019: 16th International Workshop on Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Conference will be hosted by MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas from March 27 – 29. The focus will be on emerging topics in the genesis and therapy of malignant endocrine tumors associated with multiple endocrine neoplasia and other hereditary tumor syndromes. Topics include: Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma, Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors, Parathyroid Carcinoma, Malignant Pheochromocytoma/ Paraganglioma, and Pituitary, Renal and Adrenocortical Tumors.
