Dr. Maluccio brings a unique perspective to the neuroendocrine tumor (NET) program in Louisiana. Following her surgical oncology training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, she built a multidisciplinary neuroendocrine program at Indiana University to expand surgical options for NET patients to include single or multi-visceral organ transplantation, established Gallium 68 PET/CT imaging and brought Lu-177 peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) to patients in the Midwest.  She was recruited to LSU in 2019 as the new medical director of the NET Louisiana program. Her mission was/is to merge what has historically been an aggressive surgical managerial approach to NET patients with emerging therapies and clinical trials that will define evidence-based treatment guidelines to optimize outcomes for patients.

In the area of research, Dr. Maluccio focuses on rare cancers, including NET and primary and secondary cancers of the liver. This includes basic science projects evaluating mechanism of inflammatory induced cancers, translational research projects investigating biomarkers of cancer in unique patient groups, and bloodwork markers of response to surgical and nonsurgical cancer treatment. Her specialties include surgical oncology, cancer surgery, pancreatic cancer/ pancreas surgery, stomach surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, pancreatic biliary surgery, liver surgery, abdominal surgery and the Whipple procedure, minimally invasive surgery, NanoKnife, and ablation techniques.

Dr. Maluccio is currently expanding the NET program in Louisiana by collaborating with additional health systems with the goal of improving access for patients. This will include multi-site clinical trials.
