Congratulations to Lisa Yen, NP, NBC-HWC, of LACNETS upon being selected as the 2020 Monica Warner Award recipient! The award, established by Novartis Oncology in 2009, is presented annually to “honor a patient, supporter, or caregiver who most embodies the passion, dedication, leadership, and spirit with which the late Monica Warner assisted patients, caregivers, and families affected by NETs.”
Lisa was a nurse practitioner hospitalist for over 12 years before her husband Tom’s diagnosis of advanced metastatic pancreatic NET in January 2015. After initially focusing exclusively on his care, she chose to devote her energy and medical training to educating, coaching, and inspiring all NET patients through her work with the Los Angeles Carcinoid Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (LACNETS).
The award comes with a $10,000 donation from Advanced Accelerator Applications, a Novartis company, to a patient-focused charitable organization. Lisa has designated LACNETS to receive the award.
The late Monica Warner was a dedicated and passionate supporter of patients and caregivers throughout her lifetime. As a nutritionist, she worked closely with the NET community, engaging with patients, family caregivers, and physicians. Her deep empathy and passion to serve patients who have NETs drove her to foster and organize lasting resources and support groups that continue to help people today. Monica served as Director of Development and Research Coordinator for the Carcinoid Cancer Foundation (CCF). She was also a member of the foundation’s Board of Directors. Monica truly embodied what it means to be an everyday NET hero.
