Arizona Symposium on Patient Self-Advocacy

08/22/2017 | 5:00pm - 7:00pm

The Arizona Carcinoid & Neuroendocrine Foundation, Inc. (AZCNF) invites you to attend VOICES: A Symposium on Patient Self-Advocacy on August 22 at the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert, Arizona.  The theme of VOICES will be how patients can use their voices to share their stories with others, and how to move challenges into opportunities to engage and educate families, friends, physicians and communities about patient journeys.

The event is organized around 5 key topics and will include the following:

  • A panel of health professionals and patients will address their experiences and approaches to rare cancers related to one of the topics (For example, one topic will be approaches for identifying the necessary specialist, preparing for an initial visit, and determining expectations from that visit)
  • Participants will be asked to speak among themselves for 5-10 minutes to address challenges and opportunities they have experienced related to the topic
  • Participants will be invited to share best practices with the larger group or to ask questions of the panelists related to the topic
  • Panelists will transition to the next topic and the process will begin again

This special educational event is open to neuroendocrine cancer patients and caregivers as well as other individuals with rare cancers.  It is being presented by AZCNF and Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center.
