In addition to neuroendocrine tumors, Dr. Lou’s clinical interests include pancreatic cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, cancer metastasis, brain tumors, and solid tumor metastasis to the brain. His research focuses on biomarkers of drug resistance in cancer; the role of tunneling nanotubes in intercellular communication and pathophysiology of cancer; and genomic markers of exceptional response or non-response to drug therapy in solid tumor malignancies (including colorectal cancer and malignant brain tumors).
Dr. Lou has been recognized for his expertise as a physician, researcher, and a leader with the ASCO Leadership Development Program (2021-22), the American Association for Cancer Research Emeritus Mentor Award for service to the AACR’s Scientist <-> Survivor Program, the Minnesota Monthly magazine’s list of Best Doctors, and the Distinguished Alumnus award from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University, among others.
