Emil Lou, MD, PhD, FACP, gastrointestinal and neuro- oncologist, will be the featured guest for Luncheon with the Experts on October 14, 2021. Dr. Lou is Associate Professor of Medicine, Division of Hematology, Oncology and Transplantation at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He is Medical Director of the Clinical Trials Office – Solid Tumor Unit and Co-leader of the University of Minnesota’s Masonic Cancer Center (MCC) Molecular Tumor Board.
In addition to neuroendocrine tumors, Dr. Lou’s clinical interests include pancreatic cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, cancer metastasis, brain tumors, and solid tumor metastasis to the brain. His research focuses on biomarkers of drug resistance in cancer; the role of tunneling nanotubes in intercellular communication and pathophysiology of cancer; and genomic markers of exceptional response or non-response to drug therapy in solid tumor malignancies (colorectal cancer and malignant brain tumors).
Dr. Lou has been recognized for his expertise as a physician, researcher, and a leader with the ASCO Leadership Development Program (2021-22), the American Association for Cancer Research Emeritus Mentor Award for service to the AACR’s Scientist <-> Survivor Program, the Minnesota Monthly magazine’s list of Best Doctors, and the Distinguished Alumnus award from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University, among others.
