Carcinoid/NET Friendly Physicians

It is very difficult for many carcinoid/NETs patients to find a local physician to meet their medical needs on an ongoing basis. In addition to specialists there are doctors from a variety of medical fields that have been identified as:

  • Having an interest in diagnosing and treating carcinoid and
    Neuroendocrine tumor patients.
  • Willing to consult with national and international carcinoid/NETs specialists.
  • Recommended by patients who use them locally and trust them
(patients comments are often includsed for these doctors).

    Comments: Research Statement:
The Genetics and Endocrinology Section studies the genetic bases of primary hyperparathyroidism and its relations to other neoplastic disorders. We have cloned the gene for multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 and found that it is implicated in many non-hereditary tumors. This tumor suppressor gene encodes a novel protein, menin. We are studying the actions of menin protein by yeast two-hybrid, micro-array, knockout, and other approaches. We have identified an important interaction of menin with junD, a nuclear transcription factor.

Dr. Harvey is an excellent oncologist whose first interest was breast cancer but his willingness to treat carcinoid patients over the years has brought many patients to Hershey. He has a sound knowledge of the disease and is willing to consult the experts in the field when necessary. He recently remarked that he is currently seeing over 50 carcinoid patients. Dr. Harvey is backed up by an excellent group of knowledgeable physicians. He currently is accepting new patients. DISCLAIMER:

You should be aware that not all the doctors listed here have the same treatment approach. You must make your own inquiries as to whether a particular doctor's approach agrees with how you want to treat your condition. In that regard, talking to your family doctor, and other carcinoid patients, whether at a local support group or in one of the online groups may help you make your decision.

Support groups are also an excellent source for information about local doctors who have gained experience in treating carcinoid/NETs.

No endorsement by the Foundation is intended of any of the doctors on this list , nor should an endorsement be inferred or implied.
