2009

  • Cathartic Release II: Memorial Benefit Concert
    Don’t miss this incredible performance by David Chitel and his band on Friday, December 4 at The Triad Theater, 158 West 72nd Street, New York City (between Broadway and Columbus)!

    JoanThe concert will be performed in memory of David’s mom, Joan Chitel, with all proceeds to benefit the Carcinoid Cancer Foundation. Joan Chitel passed away due to complications from carcinoid cancer on December 17, 2003. The Cathartic Release concerts were created in her memory.

    DavidCathartic Release II is the second year the group is getting together to perform songs by artists ranging from the Beatles to Kings of Leon.

    Last year’s show was a SELL OUT, featuring the band as well as special musical guests. David Chitel and his band have been playing together on and off since their college days.

    “I’m really excited about the line-up we’ve got planned for this year’s show,” says David. “Last year was a huge success and we raised upwards of $3,000.00 for the Carcinoid Cancer Foundation. With everyone’s support we are hoping to surpass that amount in 2009.”

    David intends to put on his Cathartic Release Musical Jam for years to come.

    Doors open for Cathartic Release II at 8:30 p.m., show time is 9:00 p.m. The suggested donation is $10 + at the door plus a 2 drink minimum. R.S.V.P. to David Chitel at davidchitel@hotmail.com or call him at 917-345-4025.

  • The Devereaux Family and the Zebra Ball Team will hold their 4th annual fundraising event on February 13.  Details to follow.

    Mayor Daley of Chicago has declared the month of February 2010 to be the CARCINOID CANCER/NETS awareness month and urge all Chicagoans to be aware of the dangers of these rare conditions, and to support medical research and improve early detection of these diseases.

Wearing mostly black and white or Valentine red attire accessorized by zebra-striped awareness pins and bracelets, 150 guests gathered at The Peninsula Chicago to promote awareness of a rare form of cancer: carcinoid cancer. In its third year, to date the event has raised over $100,000 to support the mission of The Carcinoid Cancer Foundation, Inc.

  • Memory of his Mother Joan Chitel, David Chitel organized a Cathartic Release Musical Jam fundraising event featuring top local NYC musicians playing popular songs of today and yesterday, on Friday, December 5th, 2008 at the Triad NYC Theater on West 72nd Str, to benefit the mission of CCF.

    To all the enthusiastic musicians and those who attended this fabulous event we extend our deepest gratitude. We received close to $ 2,000.00 to benefit and support our mission.
    We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. It was a supreme fun evening.

  • Lung Carcinoid Cancer Survivor Runs Marathon to Raise Funds for Carcinoid Research
    Kenneth Todd
    , a lung carcinoid patient in Salisbury, North Carolina, ran in the 19th Annual Keybank Vermont City Marathon in Burlington, Vermont on May 27, 2007. When Mr. Todd asked his surgeon how the removal of his left lung would affect his daily activities, his surgeon told him he could do everything except run in a marathon.; Mr. Todd, who had never previously been a runner, decided he had a new goal to run a marathon! Proceeds from those who supported him in this endeavor were donated to The Carcinoid Cancer Foundation.

  • The Zebra Ball; Stars for the Stripes - A success story
    The Zebra Ball - Stars for the Stripes, that was held In Chicago, IL, on February 10, 2007 was a "galloping" success. This event raised over $40,000 from contributions, silent and live auction.
    The goal of The Zebra Ball - Stars for the Stripes was to support The Carcinoid Cancer Foundation's mission to encourage and support research in addition to educating the general public and healthcare professionals regarding carcinoid and related neuroendocrine tumors

  • Chen In Fond memory of their mother Lois Merril
    The Merrill Family's conducted their
    Second Annual B3 Affair: Bid, Bet and Buy for Life!
    on Friday, February 23, 2007, in San Diego, CA
    To raise funds for research, to increase awareness and to educate the medical community and support research.
    As of to date April 6, 2007 funds raised exceeded $ 20,000.

    The first ever B3 Affair, held in February 2006, was an overwhelming success. The event - benefiting The Carcinoid Cancer Foundation - raised over $37,000, which represented ~20% of the total funds dispersed by the foundation in 2006! And over 230 people showed up to bid, bet; buy for life.

  • The B3 Affair
    Thank you to everyone who contributed to and attended The B3 Affair last
    Friday March 24, 2006. The event was a HUGE success!
    We had over 200 attendees and donated over $35,000 to
    The Carcinoid Cancer Foundation.

  • Bobby W. Griffey,Fifth Jr Memorial Golf Tourrnament
  • Ted Gast completed a seven-week bike ride across Europe to raise awareness of carcinoid tumors, the carcinoid syndrome and other related neuroendocrine tumors. May-July 2004;

  • Julie Beth Greenwood raised close to $10,000 for her Mitzvah (good deed) Project in conjunction with her December 2004 Bat Mitzvah in honor of her father, Robert Greenwood

  • Stephanie Griffey held memorial golf tournaments in Kentucky in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 in memory of her husband, Bobby W. Griffey, Jr.

  • Amy Myrick ran in the 2003 Chicago Marathon in memory of her father, Steve Myrick; and collected $ 11,000 to support the missions of the Carcinoid Cancer Foundation.
  • Maryann and Bob Wahmann of the Carcinoid Cancer Awareness Network, Inc.(CCAN) organized a golf tournaments on Long Island, NY in 2003 and 2005, and coordinated the CCAN's Dinner Dances in 2004, 2005 and 2006. CCAN, initiated by the LI-NY carcinoid support group, held their first Annual Carcinoid Cancer Awareness Dinner Dance on October 23, 2004 in Bellmore, NY to raise funds to help spread awareness of carcinoid and related NETs disease among the general public and the medical community.

    Some of the proceeds from this fundraising event were applied to support the development of the first 11C-5-HTP-PET Scan in the United States. The Carcinoid Cancer Foundation™ gave matching funds to this project. Many thanks to all involved.
